Seun Kuti & Egypt 80

Afrobeat, funk | Lagos, Nigeria

(The son of Fela Kuti continues the Afrobeat tradition, blending powerful rhythms & lyrics)

Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has dedicated his life to preserving and expanding his father’s political and musical legacy as the leader of Egypt 80. Showing interest in music from a young age, Seun joined the band formally before he was 12 and took over as its head after Fela’s death in 1997. He has balanced his father’s tunes with his own, incorporating African traditions and reflecting the continent’s struggles. His debut album was released in 2008, and he achieved a breakthrough with the 2011 album “From Africa with Fury: Rise,” co-produced with Brian Eno. Seun’s music remains politically charged, and in 2022, he released an EP titled “African Dreams.
